You know, I've worked with a lot of really good, really smart, really amazing nurses. But when you run into a goofy one it can really harsh your mellow. Since posting this morning I've had several more conversations with the same nurse and am left in absolute amazement that she graduated from 8th grade, much less a college nursing program.
Example;
NN: You ordered a blood transfusion for Mr. Anemic.
Pause...
Me, finally: Yes, I know.
NN: You ordered benadryl and tylenol and he says he doesn't want to take the benadryl because it makes him sleepy. So can I hold it?
Me: Those are ordered as needed. In case he has a reaction.
NN: Yeah, so can I hold it?
Pause...
Me: Sure, go ahead. You can hold the tylenol too, if he doesn't need it.
NN: Oh, that's ok, he already said he'd take that.
