There was a riot reported over the weekend in Lampedusa. I've mentioned before that there is a crisis there in refugees from Africa trying to get to Europe. Italy has set up a refugee center in Lampedusa that is absolutely overwhelmed by the vast numbers of people trying to escape Africa. They are trying to process them and move them from the island into Europe, but simply are not prepared for the sheer number of people that have arrived in the last weeks.

This weekend some of the refugees became discontented with the efforts to help them and rioted, reportedly burning a church where 60 of them were housed.

Now, I'm thinking that these are not the sort of immigrants Europe needs. I'm thinking that it would be a good idea to gather up these miscreants and return them whence they came. Or at least deport them as far as the beginning of International Waters and drop them overboard to figure out how to get the rest of the way back to Africa on their own.

While I am willing to help those in need or those who live marginal lives while trying to do for themselves, if you come to my house and expect me to take care of you, to feed and clothe you until you are able to do for yourself, then you had better know how to say please and thank you and how to clean up after yourself.
