Bread upon the water

The British use white bread wadded up and cast into the fishing area. Peter, born Brit, has confirmed this practice. This has been popular bait since its recommendation in the fishing book, The Complete Angler, by Izaak Walton in 1653. Now one fishery, Greenridge Farm Fishery, has banned the use of white bread. Evidently, too much white bread makes the fish bloated and lethargic. Brown bread is acceptable because the protein content is higher. What about mayonnaise? Is it next on the hit list? What exactly did Michelle Obama do during her visit to Great Britian? Enquiring minds want to know.
