Kitchen Remodel

Well, we've spent the last two days on the project. Got rid of the wasp nests behind the wallboard and ceiling, repaired both wall and ceiling on the south side, got the wiring run and the lights in above the counter and replaced the wallboard in those areas. Tomorrow I have rounds, but after that will empty the bottom cabinets and pull them out. We have a method now so it should go better. Then LBB can work on the floor some while I'm at work next week. I have three days off next weekend, so we should get a lot done.

The ceiling tiles and new appliances arrived today and the cabinets should be in within the next week and a half. We might even be ready for them when they get here. It would be a good thing, since we're running out of places to store stuff.

Despite being tired and achy (holding wallboard up above your head is a literal pain) I'm also feeling pretty accomplished. Considering that until now I had thought of making the call to the repairman DIY, I am coming along nicely.

Think I will go do something girly now, like repair my poor nails.

  1. It's probably too late, but next time you're drywalling a ceiling- make a deadman to hold part of the drywall.

All it is- is a tee with the long piece a little longer than the ceiling. Get the drywall where you want and give the bottom a kick so it wedges the drywall where you can work.

You are putting the ceiling up before the walls- right?

  2. Say what? Yes, the walls were mostly in place. There are a couple of things that have to wait until the floor comes up. We think.

  4. I meant before you drywalled the walls.

If you put the ceiling up first, the drywall on the walls help support the ceiling.

  5. Oh, we started by taking down the ceiling and doing the work that needed done there, wiring, lights etc and are working our way down the room. We plan to do what needs done in the walls next, then the floor.
It is going to end up tilted and facing the wrong direction, isn't it? I should stick to driving badly.
