Proud members of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy. We strongly believe in personal freedom, responsibility, and gun rights. We also believe in the 90/10 theory. That means that 10% of the people have 90% of the talent. Unfortunately, we are not in the 10% category. However, the rest of us are still better than 90% of the politicians.

Work

Last day of vacation and my boss calls and asks me to come in for a meeting.  That's never a good thing.  A couple of years ago the my employer hired an efficiency consultant firm and every department has been reorganized.  To the point that my colleagues have been jumping ship in droves.  For a while there were so few neurosurgeons they could barely keep the dept., ditto for neurologists, and in my dept. we have had to fill 5 oncology spots this year.  Not due to expansion.

Well, it turns out that possibly I should have listened to the ones who swam away, as today I was informed that my position, along with the 5 others in the same position, will be eliminated.  But, and is this a deal or what, if I stay through reorganizing and train the people who will be covering what I now do, they will guarantee me a job doing something.

There is a job in research available now (due to the ship jumpers), and they will even hold it until the transition is complete.  Of course, one of the reasons I took my current position was that I didn't have to be in charge of anything, not on faculty, no teaching, just patient care, no clinic.  Research involves all of that, plus the publishing thing. Oh, the decisions...

  2. Yeah, and I've been expecting this, so have no excuse. Should have done something sooner, but life was happening and the timing sucked. At least I have the option of research while I think it over. Have friends at UDub and UC Davis who are liking it and tell me the situation is better. But I'm not sure about life among the liberals, either.
